WASAMED (wasamed.iamb.it) is a Thematic Network founded by the European Commission within the 5th Framework program (INCO-MED).

A primary objective of the network is to establish a platform for an effective dialogue on water saving in agriculture in the Mediterranean region. The network shall contribute to improve the management of limited water resources and a sustainable development in the Mediterranean Region.

WASAMED is coordinated by the CIHEAM-Bari Institute and includes 42 partners from universities, research centres, policy-making institutions, and user associations from 16 countries (Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey).

In line with its main objective and work plan, WASAMED organised five European and Mediterranean Workshops on “Participatory Water Saving and Water Cultural Heritage” (Sanliurfa, Turkey, December 2003), "Irrigation System Performance" (Hammamet, Tunisia, June 2004), "Non-conventional Water Management" (Cairo, Egypt, December 2004), "Water Use Efficiency and Water Productivity" (Amman, Jordan, September 2005) and "Harmonisation and Integration of Water Saving Options" (Malta, May 2006).
